The Eye
It should be "The Eye of the Storm" but I don't want to bore you with a long and tedious name like that, or take up precious space on an otherwise minimalistic border. This work is supposed to symbolize the peace and tranquility in the eye of a hurricane, with the surrounding black clouds symbolizing the raging storm around you. I went all-out here with Terragen - I played with absolutely everything and this is the result. Rendered at 4800x3600 with postwork in Photoshop.
P.S. - I wasn't happy with some parts of this render. I might re-render and re-submit this in the future, let me know what changes are in order.
I'm looking at this with a mixture of awe and disappointment. Your creativity has really gone wild, and I'm so inspired by your use of water in this pic. I never realised the distortion filter could work so well without waves to distort - and the colouring and contrast combination is phenominal.
But... however fabulous the terrain, overall, look when zoomed out to this level, the effect on the clouds is, I think, less than beautiful. I know you wanted the "surrounded" feel to them but the polar distortion is just too much... I would be tempted to make this two renders if you were to do it again. The second point I don't like is the huge number of triangles in the terrain. I know it's a delicate balance when you have render time to think about, but something as obvious as this should be taken care of. If you don't like the smoothness brought about by the stats filter it's a clone-tool job, or you could resize the terrain up, stats filter, then immediately down again. It won't be perfectly the same but much better.
Having said that, this piece has the potential for being a DD in my eyes, with just how you've created this wonderful atmosphere of the storm, but a peace within its eye, and you innovative use of the water settings. Technically some of it is great, but it is pulled down by some equally bad points. If you redo this then I would be very interested to see how you improve it
